Here is a long overdue post I promised many of our clients. As parents, we are always looking for programs to enrol our children in to keep them occupied. Besides keeping them busy, it also teaches vital life skills like swimming, skating etc.
The City of Toronto offers many recreation programs; the best part is that these programs are very reasonably priced.
We have found that these programs work best for us for two reasons.
1) The variety of classes/ offering is relatively large. You will definitely find something your child is interested in.
2) The programs are offered at various venues located throughout the city. Therefore, it is very easy to find a program which is located relatively close.
Here is how and where to sign up. The programs are in high demand, therefore you need to be proactive.
1) Obtain a family account and client number
To register, each household must have a family account and each member of the family must have an individual client number. These are key must be obtained prior to enroling.
There are 3 ways to obtain a family and client account number:
a) Call 416-396-7378, option 1 to speak to a customer service representative from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday
b) Email the Family account Form to pfrcustomerservice@toronto.ca.
This takes 5 Business days to Process. The form can be found here > Link
c) Fax the Family Account Form to 416-392-1551
The form can be found here > Link
2) Determine your registration start dates
The fall and winter programs start dates are listed below based on where you are located. The start time is 7am and you will need to log in early to scope up good spots.
3) Prior to your enrollment date
Speak to your children and figure out what programs they are interested in. Coordinate timings/locations with your spouse and other members of your family. The spots in the programs go extremely fast, therefore you must have an idea of the programs you would like to enrol for as soon as registration opens.
The entire catalogue of programs can be found here.
